Boats and Voyages
All Travel StylesWhat we offer…
With its intricate network of waterways, channels, lagoons and fjords the tip of south America offers extensive opportunities for boat trips and voyages. Options vary from short navigations across lakes to witness towering glaciers to longer multi-day expedition cruises to see whales or visit the white continent.
Summary
Boat trips and voyages generally feature fairly significantly in many visitors’ itineraries due to their ability to reach remote and inaccessible destinations more easily. There are many examples of this in Patagonia, for instance some of the estancias in the region can only be accessed via the water. Cattle and sheep are moved on boats and aside from the practical challenges the location imposes, the places take on a magical seclusion that makes them more appealing as a destination to visitors. The boat trip itself adds an element of adventure and the journey becomes part of the experience.

Gaze upon the unimaginable with an Antarctic expedition charting a course across the Antarctic Circle
Summary
There is no doubt that an Antarctic expedition is the ultimate in adventure travel. We offer a handful of small boat expeditions with trusted operators that vary from five days in duration and which start from either Punta Arenas in southern Chile or Ushuaia in southern Argentina. On board smaller ships with a maximum capacity of around 100 passengers, these vessels can go where the big ships cannot. Equipped with sturdy inflatable motorized boats (Zodiacs) they offer frequent shore landings and access to shallow areas for a more intimate experience. For those short on time, express air-cruises can get you out to Antarctica as fast as possible to ensure you maximise your time there.

For a dose of adrenaline in spectacular surroundings join this unique half day rafting adventure on the Rio de las Vueltas
Summary
The Rio de las Vueltas belongs to the Rio Santa Cruz basin, an important share of its waters are of glacial origin, partly coming from the thawing of the glaciers in the north section of the Los Glaciares National Park. The river’s source is in Lago del Desierto at a height of 506 metres above sea level and at its end it flows into Lago Viedma at a height of 250 metres above sea level. Its middle section, from Laguna Condor to the town of el Chalten is a stretch that would be travelled at 16 km in length, with characteristics that rate it as Class III to Class IV for rafting. It also benefits from dramatic views of Mount Fitz Roy and its satellite needles.
If you are travelling as a family, we can arrange a Soft Rafting observational tour which is suitable for children as young as five. This shorter down river journey takes place on the gentle meandering sections of the river crossing some beautiful Andean forest with views of the northern face of Mt Fitz Roy. It finishes with a delightful estancia lunch before taking a transfer back to el Chalten.
Our Recommendation
We highly recommend rafting of the Rio de las Vueltas with this family-run operator based in el Chalten. Guided by passionate and capable guides, incredible landscapes will pass you by as you paddle down this Patagonia river in rafts (kayaking is also possible).
